Engagement
My approach to journalism — and any kind of storytelling — begins with listening.
At LAist, I served as the first person in the role as a beat-specific engagement producer on early childhood coverage. This position emerged from human-centered design research to understand how to best serve parents, caregivers, and educators throughout Southern California. My goal was to bring community members’ voices into the newsroom to shape our coverage using a myriad of tactics, including sharing resources with families by mail and distributing cameras to parents and child care providers.
A behind-the-scenes look into some of my projects:
“We Launched A Text Service To Answer Your Pregnancy Questions,” LAist, September 15, 2022
“Engagement in focus: 5 takeaways from seeing the world through child care providers’ eyes,” Engagement at KPCC, Medium, July 27, 2021
“How to reach thousands of families without Internet during COVID-19? Try snail mail,” Engagement at KPCC, Medium, May 13, 2020
“How giving parents cameras helped KPCC/LAist tell a different kind of pandemic story,” Engagement at KPCC, Medium, August 20, 2020
